The process to call your New Pastor is now fully underway! Your PNC (Pastor Nominating Committee) has begun their regular meetings and is being trained for all the work that lies ahead of them. Please remember them and this whole search process in your prayers.
Your Focus Groups have met with around 100 members participating! This is an awesome turn out! Thank you to all who were able to come! The responses given during your Focus Groups will be assembled into a Mission Study along with other information about your church.
Once the Mission Study is completed by your PNC, it will be presented to Session. After Session approves it, the Study is sent to presbytery. After the presbytery’s Commission on Ministry has approved your Mission Study, the PNC will get the green light to write the MIF (Mission Information Form.)
The MIF is a 10-page document, before it’s filled in, which describes your congregation and the gifts that you are seeking in your new pastor. This MIF will be posted on line on the Church Leadership Connection website of our denomination
( https://clc.pcusa.org/OpportunitySearch.aspx ) for all perspective pastors to read and to discern if they are sensing a call to come here. If you go to this website, you can see all the churches which are presently searching for a pastor. You will not be able to see the names of any pastors who are searching….for obvious reasons—they don’t want their own congregations to know!
This system will also match a pastor’s information with your church’s information. Some of us affectionately call it the dating service of the PCUSA because it truly does try to match pastors and churches together. It has matched me with some of the churches I have served. It is a wonderful tool, and your information will be posted within a few months on this system.
Once your form is “live” in the PCUSA system, your committee will start receiving information from pastors. It is estimated that they will be sifting through information on over 100 pastors. Your committee will be reading multi-page documents on each and every one of them!
And in this whole process, we trust that God’s hand is guiding it all. We walk in faith that God had led this congregation for 125 years and will continue to lead it. This is an exciting time to be part of this church—as we watch and wait to together with joy and anticipation.
I am reminded of Isaiah 43:19:
I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
May God give us the eyes to see and hearts to be wide open to God’s new work among us!
