Salem Presbytery Youth Mission Project
Saturday, November 4
1:00-4:00 pm
Clemmons Presbyterian Church

This is a Presbytery-wide youth mission project which will gather all youth from around Salem Presbytery to participate in a project which will provide a source of heat for the homeless community in Asheville, NC.

We will be making Ceramic Tent Heaters which Beloved House of Asheville will distribute to the homeless in need in the Asheville area.  We will also enjoy a time of fellowship and meet other Presbyterian youth from around our area and also participate in a meaningful worship and dedication service.

Salem Presbytery Youth Council needs help from congregations to collect:  tea candles, lighters, winter socks and/or money for these items to be purchased in order to support the event.

From Pastor Susan – November

From the Pastor’s Desk

It is the season of Thanksgiving! For me just the word Thanksgiving floods my mind with sweet, childhood memories: the feel of the crisp autumn air, raking leaves and then jumping in the pile, collecting a handful of acorns, a turkey basting in the oven, family around the table, and the smell of a large slice of pumpkin pie.

I have been delighted to learn that now studies actually show that being thankful is good for you! It is good for your health. We are even encouraged to keep a gratitude list around so that we can remember all the things for which we have to be thankful. Not long ago, I was talking with a woman whose smart phone dinged in the middle of our conversation. She explained to me that she set a timer on her phone to ring at the same time every day to remind her to stop and say a prayer of thanksgiving for the things in her life for which she was thankful at that moment.

Giving thanks to God is a theme that runs throughout the Bible. The people of God are called on over and over again with such familiar refrains as, “Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 118:1) It is what we do as the family of God. We give thanks. We remember who gives us life and provides us with all that we are and all that we have, and we lift our hands in praise.

May your heart be filled to the brim with deep gratitude this Thanksgiving Season,

Susan E. Moorefield
