Purpose

In accordance with our identity as a church preschool serving the larger community, our purpose is to love and nurture children in a safe and affirming environment.  We will support parents in building positive character traits such as love of God and neighbor, trust, honesty, and generosity.  We will provide an educational foundation in preparation of their educational journey.

Curriculum

Young children grow and learn according to a broad general pattern.  Each child needs to follow a general pattern of growth natural for him/her to realize his/her fullest potential as a person.  The basic needs of children form one framework for the daily experiences and activities of our Preschool.

Basic needs include adequate health care and nutrition, love from parents and other adults, the development of a favorable self-concept, and an intellectual challenge.

Our Preschool offers opportunities for the following:

• growth in independence
• experience in success
• understanding his/her own world
• development of motor skills
• experience to develop new and more complete concepts
• creative experiences
• growth in relationships with other children
• new understanding and skills in problem solving
• guidance of play toward constructive purpose

We will provide a stimulating environment in which each child play, learns, thinks, sees, feels, and hears in a matter that sharpens his/her knowledge and sensitivity to people and the world around them.

Our teachers are concerned with how the child learns, the significance of the process, the development of independence and responsibility in children.  We also care deeply about your children and respect their ideas.

Our teachers will use a variety of current resources with a biblical emphasis to plan opportunities and activities for the students.  They will experience many “hands on” and “learn by doing” activities.

It is with the belief that we can be helpful in the wholesome development of children and enhance family life that the North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church incorporates in the total ministry a program of preschool.  We will work to be a preschool where children may grow up to know that they are loved by God and people.
