A Note from Dr. Evans

Well, time has really flown since my coming here in February!  Truly, it has been a great joy for me to be with you during this time of transition.  I have not considered it work at all, just enjoying being with you for a time.  I feel like my life has come full circle in many ways and I hope I’ve given back just a little bit to a congregation and people whom I love!

I will remain with you until May 21, but my schedule will change just a little bit.  As most of you know, Lavinia and I are relocating to the Raleigh area to be nearer Vann and his family as we get older.  We have purchased a home there and will moving most of our belongings and household items on April 28.  We still have our home in Yadkin County and I will be commuting to Wilkes from there on days I will be in the office.  Right now, I plan to be present on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning May 1.  Of course, I will be available for emergency pastoral care and other matters that may require this schedule to change, and I can also be reached through the Church Office.

I want to thank you in advance for these three months together!  I see life and vitality and great faith among you, so you should be filled with hope as you look to the future. Change is sometimes hard, but usually change brings new ideas, new life, and new possibilities. The Transition Team has done an excellent job in their search for an interim pastor and will be sharing more information about that search very soon.  You will be in good hands, and remember you are not alone, for our Risen Lord is with you and will surely bless and keep you in all the days ahead!

Grace and peace and love to each of you and I am sure we will meet again!!

The Transition Team would like to ask everyone who is able to attend worship service on Sunday, April 30.  Dr. Evans will be away as he moves from his current home to Raleigh, NC.  Sam Marshall, Executive General Presbyter of Salem Presbytery will lead our worship service.  Debo Cornett has also invited Uncle Joe and the Shady Rest to join us for worship so that everyone in attendance can enjoy the special music which makes the weekend so special for our community.  In addition, the Transition Team will have a important update to provide to the congregation about the search for our interim pastor.  Please make plans to attend.

Thank you,

your Transition Team.

Transition Committee Update

The transition committee is meeting regularly. Our task currently is to identify the best person to lead our congregation through the transition process. We have received several pastor information forms which are forms used by pastors to express interest in being our interim/transitional pastor. We have several excellent candidates and we will begin to narrow our choices. While we cannot say when our choice will be made we remain faithful that God will lead the right person to us. Please continue to hold this committee in your prayers.

2/6/17

The Transition Team has been formed!  Co-chairs are Vicki Taylor and Brian Hege who will serve along with committee members Caroline Czerkawski, Bob Vickery, Geoff Pagett, Doris Stroud, and Daniel McNeill.

Dr. Rob C. Evans III will serve as bridge interim until Easter 2017 or until an interim is found, whichever comes first.  Rob has returned to North Wilkesboro Presbyterian this month (February 2017) having previously served this congregation from 1982 until 1993.  A small group will meet with Rob Evans on Tuesday, February 7 to welcome him and answer any initial questions he has.

Members of the congregation should not hesitate to contact the transition team with questions, concerns, etc.  Co-chair Brian Hege can be reached via email at brianh@meadowsmills.com or by phone at336-927-4663.  Please consult the church directory to obtain contact information for the other committee members.
