Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
bring an offering, and come into his courts.
Worship the LORD in holy splendor;
tremble before him, all the earth. (Psalm 96:7–9)
Today, the psalmist calls us all to worship at the temple; she summons us to enter our sanctuaries with praise. Little does she know that this is not advisable, even permissible right now. The good news is that we need not enter the temple to worship our God; we need not go to our sanctuaries to give God praise. All the earth trembles at the glory and strength of God because all the earth experiences God’s goodness. In many ways, all the earth is God’s temple, God’s sanctuary. So let us join with creation in ascribing to God the glory due God’s name.
