When they say, “There is peace and security”. . . (1 Thessalonians 5.3a)

Peace and security is what everyone wants these days. In fact, peace and security is what everyone has always wanted. That’s why Paul writes this morning – to remind his Thessalonian friends (and to remind us) from where true peace and security come. While the Roman Empire claims that they are the true source of peace and security (“There is peace and security” is something of a Roman imperial slogan), Paul redirects our attention to the ultimate font of peace, the ultimate foundation of security. “There will peace and security” only when we recognize and act as if anything and everything, anyone and everyone belong to God. – rc
