Light dawns for the righteous,
and joy for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous,
and give thanks to his holy name! (Psalm 97:11-12)
We join with the psalmist this morning in singing our thanks to God for yet another day. For a new day is dawning and God is still (and ever will be) king over all the earth. Each morning, the sun’s rising serves as a reminder of our calling as God-bearers, as Christ-followers, as King-servants: we are establishers of righteousness and justice, the very pillars of God’s throne (v. 2). So perhaps a morning ritual is in order – a quick glance at the rising sun, a short prayer of thanksgiving and commitment, and a new beginning to our day. – rc
