Music, whether sung or played on an instrument, is prayer, an offering to God on behalf of the people. Its purpose is neither for entertainment nor for artistic display. The primary role of the choir and other musicians is to lead the congregation in the singing of prayer—hymns– and to offer prayer on behalf of the congregation with anthems, responses, and other musical forms.
Opportunities for participation in music at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church include: Adult Choir, Adult Handbells, and Kingdom Kids. Church members also attend an annual Music Retreat sponsored and hosted by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians held during the summer months at the Montreat Conference Center in Montreat, NC.
The Adult Choir is for ages high school and older. The choir leads the congregation in singing during worship services on Sunday at 11am as well as providing music for special services throughout the year. Rehearsals are weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30pm, immediately following the Kirk Night dinner and program.
Our Adult Handbell choir is for ages high school and older. These musicians frequently play during Sunday worship and during special services. Rehearsals are weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00pm, prior to the Kirk Night dinner.
Special music services during the year include a Service of Lessons and Carols during Advent, a Christmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Service, and a Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service.
Kingdom Kids is a ministry with children 2nd through 5th grade. This ministry includes Wednesday Night dinner and an enrichment time that rotates around music, arts and crafts, service projects, games and study. Outside activities such as picnics, field trips and summer music camp, are also planned. Kingdom Kids meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 following the Kirk Night meal.
